Description

Origin: Emerald has been discovered in Colombia, Zambia, Brazil, Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, United States and Australia. Being highly saturated and perfectly balanced in green and blue tints, Colombian emeralds are the considered to be superior to those of other origins, followed by Zambian and Brazilian emeralds making these three the most popular.

Colour: Bright, deep green is desired colour in emerald. Pure green is preferred to green with blue and yellow tints.

Clarity: Natural emeralds have natural inclusions and are rarely free of visible inclusions. However, surface reaching cracks and cavities should be avoided.

Cut: A fine cut brings brightness, illumination, colour constancy and can even hide inclusions. Emeralds are generally cut in oval, rectangular, round and mixed cuts.

Carat Weight: If the stone is of good quality, a 3 to 4 emerald coral will suit a wearer of any age and body weight and provide good results. If the stone is of low to medium quality, a 5 to 7 emerald is recommended. If one can afford it, a 5-10 carat good quality emerald is best.

Who can wear Emerald?
In Vedic astrology, emerald is ideally suited for those whose moon signs (rashi) and ascendants (lagna) are Taurus (vrshabha) Gemini (mithuna), Leo (singha), Virgo (kanya).
Western Astrology, on the other hand, promotes emerald as the birthstone of May.
